Creating a profile for PSRemote

Note: Keep in mind when creating a profile for a remote user, that when in remote status the user will only have access to the items that are specified in the profile. For example, if you do not add Bob's PhoneList into the profile, that user will not have access to Bob's PhoneList when they are in remote mode.

  Also keep in mind that the more information you add to a profile, the longer it will take a user synchronizing with an FTP connection to download, especially during the initial remote synchronization. Therefore it is not recommended to include every PhoneList, Message Box, etc to the users profile. Include only what they really need access to off-site.

    Step 1) Create a new profile. You can access this option either during the PSRemote setup, or you can create and edit profiles after the initial setup by opening the psadmin.exe program from the Pslips folder on the PHONEslips server. In PSAdmin click on the 'Remote' menu and select 'Edit Profiles' then click on the 'New' button.

    Step 2) Read the information screen and click 'Next' to proceed.

    Step 3) Highlight the PHONEslips user name you would like to create the profile for, then click 'Next'. Click here for an example.

    Step 4) Enter a description for the profile, for example 'Bob's laptop' or 'Bob's Home Computer', then click 'Next' to continue. Click here for an example.

    Step 5) An information screen explaining the two different synchronization methods appears next. Click the 'Next' button after reading this.

    Step 6) Select the type of synchronization this profile will be using, either Local Area Connection or Internet Connection. Local area connection is most often used for laptop computers that are temporarily connected to the office network to synchronize their data, then taken off-site. Internet Connection is most often used for computers that are not attached to the office network, and will use an FTP account to synchronize their data. Click here for an example.

Note: A single computer can use both methods of synchronization, however a different profile must be setup for each synchronization type.

    Step 7) Select the PhoneList(s) this user will need access to while using PHONEslips remotely. To select a PhoneList, highlight the PhoneList name on the left, then push the 'Add' button to move it to the list on the right. Click 'Next' when you have added all of the PhoneLists you want to include in this profile. Click here for an example.

Note: PhoneLists that are not added to the profile here will not be available in off-line mode.

    Step 8) Select the Schedule(s) this user will need access to while using PHONEslips remotely. To select a Schedule, highlight the Scheduler name on the left, then push the 'Add' button to move it to the list on the right. Click 'Next' when you have added all of the Schedules you want to include in this profile. Click here for an example.

Note: Schedules that are not added to the profile here will not be available in off-line mode.

    Step 9) Select the To-Do List(s) this user will need access to while using PHONEslips remotely. To select a To-Do List, highlight the To-Do List name on the left, then push the 'Add' button to move it to the list on the right. Click 'Next' when you have added all of the To-Do Lists you want to include in this profile. Click here for an example.

Note: To-Do Lists that are not added to the profile here will not be available in off-line mode.

    Step 10) Select the Call Log(s) this user will need access to while using PHONEslips remotely. To select a Call Log, highlight the Call Log name on the left, then push the 'Add' button to move it to the list on the right. Click 'Next' when you have added all of the Call Logs you want to include in this profile. Click here for an example.

Note: Call Logs that are not added to the profile here will not be available in off-line mode.

    Step 11) Select the Message Box(es) this user will need access to while using PHONEslips remotely. To select a Message Box, highlight the Message Box name on the left, then push the 'Add' button to move it to the list on the right. Click 'Finish' when you have added all of the Message Boxes you want to include in this profile. Click here for an example.

Editing a PSRemote profile

Note: Most of the time it is more useful to edit a profile for a user as their business needs change, rather then deleting and re-creating the entire profile. In this way you avoid repeating the initial synchronization, which can be lengthy.

    Step 1) Open the psadmin.exe program from the Pslips folder on the PHONEslips server. In PSAdmin click on the 'Remote' menu and select 'Edit Profiles'.

    Step 2) On the Current Profiles screen select the name of the profile you would like to edit, and click the 'Edit' button.

    Step 3) The Edit Profile screen appears. At the top you have six tabs to choose from, PhoneLists, Schedules, To-Do Lists, Sendlogs, Call Logs and Messages. In each of these tabs you can add and remove items for the current profile. To add an item, highlight the item in the left column and push the 'Add' button. To remove an item from the profile, highlight the item in the right column and push the 'Remove' button.
