How Do I... Create Repeating items in the Group Scheduler?

Create a Daily Repeating Item
Create a Weekly Repeating Item
Create a Monthly Repeating Item
Create a Yearly Repeating Item

Creating a Daily Repeat Item

The Daily repeat option allows the user to set an item to repeat for a specified number of days (1 to 99) until a designated date is reached. If a recurring event needs to end prior to or beyond the following year, the Until field can be modified at the user's discretion.

The user may choose to have a repeat entry perform a special action if the entry lands on a weekend or legal holiday. If you check the If item lands on weekend or holiday box you can select from three options:

Move to previous business day- If you choose this option the entry will be moved to the previous day that is not a weekend day or legal holiday. Please note that this may create duplicate entries.

Move to next business day - If you choose this option the entry will be moved to the next day that is not a weekend day or legal holiday. Please note that this may create duplicate entries.

Skip - If you choose this option an entry that would have fallen on a weekend or legal holiday will not be created.

In this example, we have set the item to repeat every 2 days, until 8-26-04, and to move an item to the next business day if it lands on a weekend or legal holiday.

Creating a Weekly Repeat Item

The Weekly repeat option allows the user to set an item to repeat on a specified day or combination of days of the week.

In this example, we have set the entry to repeat every 2nd (or every other) week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, until 8-26-04. If an item lands on a weekend day or holiday, it will be moved to the next available business day.

Repeat Weekly - the Advanced button

If you click the Advanced button you will see some additional selections that will allow you the flexibility to repeat on specific weeks during the month, such as the first and fourth week of every month. In the example we have set the item to repeat on the second and fourth tuesday of each month, until 8-26-04.

Creating a Monthly Repeat Item

The Monthly repeat option allows the user to set an item to repeat Monthly, Bi-monthly or at an increment of your choosing.

You can set the item to repeat on a specific date during the Month (such as the 26th) or on a specific day (such as the 3rd Thursday), and the item will repeat until the end date that you specify. The start date will always be the day you are creating the schedule entry for.

When configuring the Monthly repeat Schedule, if an item falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the user has the option of moving that item to the previous or next consecutice business day, or to skip the creation of the item. To enable this, click the "If item lands on weekend or holiday" check box.following Monday. Click the OK button to process the request.

In this example, the schedule item has been set to repeat every 3 months, on the 26th of the month, until 8-26-06, and any items that land on a weekend or legal holiday will be moved to the next available business day.

Repeat Monthly - The Advanced button

The Repeat Monthly advanced option allows the user to set an item to repeat on a designated day and month or combination of months until a given date is reached. In this example, the schedule item has been selected to repeat on the 26th day of February, June and October until August 26th of the year 2006.

Creating a Yearly Repeat Item

The Yearly repeat option allows the user to set a yearly recurring item in two distinct ways.

Items can be set to repeat on a specified date for a designated number of years. For example: This schedule item has been selected to repeat on the 26th of August until August 26th of the year 2004.

The user also has the option of repeating a yearly item by selecting a specified day. For example: An item can be selected to repeat on the 3rd Thursday of November until the year 2004. This option is especially useful for those events that fall on a particular week day of a designated month (such as Thanksgiving), but do not occur on a reoccurring date.

When configuring a Yearly repeat Schedule, if an item falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the user has the option of moving that item to the previous or next business day, or to skip the creation of that single item entirely.
